MOROCCO
Moroccan Handicrafts

Marrochino craftsmanship and its similar history of the country, have an old roots in history, it is rich in traditions imported from the East or Andalusia and we see the oriental influence that manifests itself in the production in particular of CARPETS, FABRICS AND EMBROIDERY.

In front of this we see the Andalusian imprint appears in the arts of CERAMICS, METAL, WOOD AND LEATHER. In this rich and mixed mosaic of handicrafts we do not forget the old local ART of the first barbarian population which is defined as Rural Handicrafts, where the objects often have a utilitarian function such as: CARPETS, FURNITURE, UTENSILS, exceptional tools for daily life with some subject ornaments made of metal, for community celebrations.

THE WOOD

These objects of the usual embellished by those local of the region de productions and decorated with geometric shapes that takes the shape of trees and flowers inspired by nature.

THE WOOD

The use of wood and like all the other materials, which are part of this rich Moroccan art is a widespread tradition throughout North Africa but it is concentrated in Morocco and dates back to the time of the IDRISSI coming from the ARABICA peninsula. In fact, it is typical to use wood in Morocco for the construction of monuments, houses, even buildings. It is sometimes used for the decorations of the roofs and sides of the famous royal tombs, as is the case in the sanctuary of Moulay Idriss and Moulay Ismail and recently at the shrine of the father of the country, King Mohammed V in Rabat.

TEXTILE

Since the year 1500 B.C., Marrakech was known for the production of textiles, when textiles were made from different materials where the two largest cities producing this kind of materials are the current Marrakech and Fes. This magnificent production covers local consumption and most of it is destined for export and there are various forms of handicrafts of this weaving ranging from simple weaving to dressing, up to linen to furnish homes. For those who visit Marrakech and all the imperial cities notice a large presence of textile productions. But most of this production goes to the Moroccan carpet which is divided into two categories.

LEATHER PRODUCTION

The great history of Moroccan artisans is manifested in many works on this kind of art. From wrought iron, wood, copper, leather, carpets, ceramics, which are part of the traditional history of all the imperial cities that represent this craft: Fes, Marrakech, Rabat, Meknes. But the two big cities known for leather processing are Marrakech and Fes, where there are entire districts reserved for tanneries and tanners where bags, accessories, slippers, saddles, leather straps and many other utilitarian things for clothing and home furnishings are processed.

GIOIELLE

Like the rest of the handicrafts, jewelry in Morocco has a long history as well as the history of the country where two types of this kind of art are produced. Jewelry made by inhabitants who live in big cities such as Fes, Marrakech, Rabat, Meknes, are finely carved pieces that feature floral motifs. For the most part they are studded with precious stones, often emeralds, diamond garnets, very beautiful and elegant, in exchange for this we find the jewels produced in rural areas, particularly in the south and south-east and in the Atlas Mountains, where a lot of copper and silver is used. They are very elegantly refined, known in Morocco as Berber JEWELS. Their simple linear style with geometric designs.
