City
Essouira

Essaouira is a small city on the ocean coast that is built around three main sites: the medina, the port, and the fortified kasbah. Originally called MOGADORE, a name that is currently given to the whole city which means fortress.

In the port of the city from the early hours of the morning we see fishermen selling fish after unloading it from fishing boats and displaying it on some stalls where the fish is grilled to be consumed directly while watching the OCEAN and the courage of the SURFERS who challenge the force of the sea in search of the highest wave that will give them emotions. Essaouira is also an ideal destination for a stay full of HISTORY, ART AND ADVENTURE.

History of the city

Essaouira, originally called MOGADORE, is a beautiful city located along the Atlantic coast of Morocco west of MARRAKECH, reachable after about 3 hours of the journey by car from Marrakech. Famous above all for its sensational MEDINA by the sea, inscribed in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, with its artisan shops, the kasbah, the white and iridescent walls, and the relaxation of its inhabitants that make this city unique and with a European flavor.

The first French colonized made it a perfect example of architecture and enriched it in 1756 with walls, towers, gates and bastions. With this new example of European architecture, the French will be able to perfectly combine the Arab-Muslim culture of the area with the overseas one. Essaouira, a fortified port city from the mid-18th century, has always been an important port connecting Morocco with the rest of Africa and Europe.
